Now and then I get asked questions by my pupils. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and answers. If you have any questions please call or text don’t hesitate.

 

Q: How old do I have to be before I can start taking my driving lessons?

A: You have to be age 17 or over before you can start taking driving lessons. However, if you are receiving disability living allowance at a higher rate, you can start taking driving lessons at the age of 16 years.

Q: What do I need before I can start taking driving lessons?

A: You need to have a valid UK driving licence (provisional or full). If you do not have a driving licence you can apply online fill in D1 form on DVLA website or get the D1 application form from the post office. 

Q: Can I start taking driving lessons before passing my theory test?

A: Yes you can. In fact i recommend that you start taking driving lessons and study the theory, as it will help you understand some of the questions and answers contained in the theory test and your instructor will be able to help.

Q: I am a student do I get any discounts?

A: yes. Please check our lesson prices page on the student discounts.

Q: How often should I be taking my driving lessons?

A: Continuity of driving lessons is important we recommend you take at least 2 hours a week. Your progress will be much quicker if you have two hour lessons each time.

Q: How many driving lessons will I need before I can pass my practical driving test?

A: The number of lessons required varies from student to student on average; it takes around 40 hours if you are complete beginner. How many lessons you need will depend on many factors, such as your learning ability and understanding also your age and how frequently you are taking the lessons. If you have previous driving experience maybe couple of lessons to brush up on their skills.

Q: How will I know when I can do my practical driving test?

A: When you can drive without your instructor’s help. You will know when you are able to drive consistently without causing any problems to other road users. Your instructor will also keep you informed.

Q: What type of car do you teach in?

A: Ace Driving School has various makes and models of cars, such as the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa and Toyota Yaris. All our cars are fitted with dual controls for everyones safety.

Q: How much is a driving lesson?

A: Cheapest package is on the block booking lesson. Prices various depending on the package you choose.

Q: Can I take my driving lesson on evenings and weekends?

A: Yes. Our driving instructors work 7 days. Our price stays the same, no extra charge.

Q: Will there be anyone else in the car during my driving lesson?

A: Definitely not. We give one to one lesson. We don’t pick up or drop off other pupils during your driving lesson.

Q: Can I be picked up and dropped off in a different place?

A: Yes, within local area. You must inform your driving instructor in advance and have a mutual understanding.

Q: Can I do the ‘Pass Plus’ course with my instructor?

A: Yes. Our driving instructors are Pass Plus registered.

Q: How can I apply for my driving licence?

A: Fill in D1 form on DVLA website or get the D1 application form from a post office. 

Q: Do I need to have computer skills to do my theory test? 

A: No. The theory test software is user friendly, specially designed ease to use. 

 Q: Can I learn to drive with a foreign driving licence? 

A: No, our car insurance will not allow us to teach anyone without a UK driving licence ( Provisional or Full).  

 Q: Are the driving instructors fully approved? 

A: Yes, we only employ Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor. 

 Q: Are all the driving instructors CRB checked?

A: Yes, all our instructors are CRB checked.

Q: Can I take driving lessons in my own car with an Ace Driving Instructor?

A: Yes. You will need your own insurance also your first lesson will need to be in the driving instructors car so the instructor can assess your driving ability.
