AT THE START OF YOUR PRACTICAL TEST THE DRIVING EXAMINER WILL ASK YOU TWO QUESTIONS. ONE SHOW ME AND ONE TELL ME QUESTION. IF YOUR ANSWERS IS INCORRECT IT WILL RESULT IN MINOR FAULT.
FOR SOME OF THE ANSWER YOU WILL NEED TO SWITCH THE IGNITION ON.

Q: Can you tell or Show me how you would check that the horn is working in this vehicle? A: Push the horn and listen for the sound. Only operate the horn if in the driving test centre car park. |
A: You should adjust the head restraint by pressing the button in and moving it up or down. The rigid part of the head restraint should be level with your eyes and ears, and close to the back of your head as comfortable as possible. N.B some head restraint may not be adjustable. |
A: Press the hazard warning light switch on. Than walk around the car to check that the indicator lights are working |

A: 1) You should pump the foot brake and it should feel hard. If it feels spongy or slack then it’s not working properly 2) The vehicle should not pull to one side as you drive off when you apply the foot brake slightly. |

Q: Can you tell me how you would check the tyres have sufficient tread depth and that they’re in generally good condition and safe to use on the road?
A: 1) The tyre should have 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ of the tyre all round. 2) There should be no cuts or bulges around the entire outer circumference. |
A: 1) Identify engine coolant reservoir then check minimum and maximum marker. 2) Describe how to top up to correct level. (Ask instructor to demonstrate.) (Do not open cap if engine is hot.) |
